The Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) is a pivotal Nigerian government agency under the Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology. We focus on promoting the development and optimal utilization of Nigeria’s vast industrial raw materials, fostering sustainable industrial growth.
To promote the development and optimal utilisation of Nigeria’s raw materials for sustainable industrial growth and economic development.
To be an indispensable catalyst for Nigeria's industrial growth and development, leveraging the nation's vast raw materials.
Global economic downturn of the 1980's affected foreign exchange earnings and industrial output among others.
Industries were heavily dependent on imported raw materials. Dwindling foreign exchange earnings from petroleum were expanded to import raw materials and products.
To address the challenge, IMI, MAN & NISER originated a workshop on industrial matters in July 1983 where recommendations for the establishment of the council were made.
RMRDC was established by Decree (now Act) 39 of 1987 to promote, support & expedite industrial development & self-reliance through optimal utilization of local raw materials as inputs to industries.
Draw up policy guidelines and action programmes on raw materials acquisition, exploitation and development.
Review raw material resources availability and utilization to advise the Federal Government on strategic implications of depletion, conservation or stock-piling of such resources.
Advise on adoption of machinery and processes for raw materials utilization.
Encourage publicity of research findings and other information relevant to local sourcing of raw materials for industries.
We provide expert guidance to the government on raw materials management, including exploitation, stockpiling, and tariff considerations for imports and exports.
Through strategic media collaborations, we promote our research findings and initiatives to encourage public engagement and commercialization of innovations.
We foster entrepreneurship and raw materials processing clusters using the triple helix model, providing shared equipment and infusing innovation into these hubs.
Charting the course for Nigeria's industrial transformation through strategic raw materials development and innovation.
A comprehensive 10-year plan for sustainable industrial growth and raw materials optimization.
Strategic initiatives to boost local production and reduce import dependency.
Measurable goals for job creation, GDP contribution, and technology adoption.
